Watford FC is a professional football team in Watford that, after a successful campaign in 2020-21, sees them compete once more in the Premier League for the 2021-22 season.
Starting life in 1881 as Watford Rovers, the team eventually combined with Watford St. Mary’s in 1898 to become the team that is known and loved today by its passionate followers.
It has not always been easy for Watford, or ‘The Hornets’, with a difficult post-war era that saw them relegated to the third division. Hope came, however, from lifelong Watford supporter Elton John when he became chairman in 1976. Elton along with Graham Taylor, steered the club back to success, taking them back to the first division in just five short years.
Since those days, Watford has returned to the Premier League, but throughout, they have maintained a close rivalry with nearby Luton Town FC, but this has once more been put on hold as the two compete in different leagues.
Watford FC calls Vicarage Road their home, and it has served them well over the years. Recently refurbished, hospitality options to see Watford FC are generally good, offering a good balance of cost to experience.
