St. Mary’s Stadium is the home of Southampton FC, situated in the docks area of Southampton on the west bank of the River Itchen, currently the largest football stadium in South England outside of London.
Named for its proximity to St. Mary’s church, ‘The Saints’ move from the Dell to these new grounds was seen as the Club returning to its roots, having formed as ‘Southampton St. Marys’ in 1885.
The stadium is quite striking with a completely enclosed pitch and all corners filled with seating which helps to create a great atmosphere. Commendably there is a multitude of friendly stewards and hospitality staff on hand to ensure a fantastic experience for visitors.
Excellent views are to be had of the pitch from all around the grounds, and thanks to its relatively new construction the facilities are excellent and conveniently located.
Aside from football games, the stadium is used sparingly for music concerts and film premieres though mostly the various suites are used for conferences, exhibitions, and events such as weddings, proms, and birthday parties.
St. Mary’s Stadium is located in the heart of Southampton on the banks of the River Itchen.
