St Andrews Links in the town of St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, is considered the “Home of Golf” and is the location for one of the oldest courses in the world, fittingly named the Old Course.
Currently, there are seven courses at St Andrews, the Balgove, Eden, Jubilee, Strathtyrum, New, the Old Course, and The Castle Course. Each of these courses is operated by the St Andrews Links Trust, a charitable organization.
The game has been played here since the 15th century, and in fact, was the birthplace of the 18-hole standard, which came into force in 1764.
St Andrews Links regularly holds The Open Championship at the Old Course. The first time was back in 1873, and the yardage since then has remained largely the same, the current course is approximately 350 yards longer.
Regardless of the major tournaments, St Andrews Links is a historical venue, dripping with class and beautiful scenery. Visiting is a magical experience, a true bucket list item for budding golfers the world over.
St Andrews is home to The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the world.
