Chester Racecourse is the oldest racecourse still in operation in the world, with the first recorded race held in 1539. The course is also known as the Roodee and is just one mile and one furlong in length, one of the smallest in the country.
The racecourse’s position within the city is incredibly advantageous, with hotels, bars, shopping, and restaurants just a short walk away.
A day at Chester Racecourse is a marvellous experience, with a variety of areas to explore and a hugely social crowd that are keen to celebrate the occasion. The big event of the year is undoubtedly the Boodles May Festival, a three-day festival which includes the Chester Cup and the Betfair Huxley Stakes.
Beyond flat racing, Chester hosts several Polo tournaments, the LDF International Tournament in June and the Roodee Challenge Cup in September, as well as other special celebrations, parties, and conferences.
Set in the centre of Chester the racecourse enjoys many amenities just a short walk away.
