Southampton F.C. started life in 1885 as St. Mary’s Young Men’s Association F.C., renaming in 1897 just as the Club was beginning to gain some notoriety.
The path to top-flight football was never an easy one with the Club having to overcome many obstacles along the way. Southampton was a founding member of the Premier League with the Club known for causing upsets for some of the bigger clubs.
'The Saints' call St. Mary’s Stadium their home, having moved from The Dell which had been in use for 103 years. St. Mary's Stadium has been warmly accepted by the fans and is seen as the Club returning to its roots with a great atmosphere found inside.
