The Northern Belle is a luxury train evoking the opulence of 1930’s rail travel, it was previously owned by the Orient Express brand. With a capacity of 276 guests, this is a private charter that operates as an official WRU package for the prestigious Wales v England international between London and Cardiff on match-day. It allows guests to travel in comfort, enjoying the splendid hospitality on board, without the hassle of driving or arranging accommodation in Cardiff. Train times are subject to confirmation and the timings are not always ideal.
Train times and the departure station need to be confirmed by Network Rail closer to the event, however, the Northern Belle usually departs London Paddington and arrives at Cardiff Central, which is a 10-minute walk from the Principality Stadium. The each-way journey is a 3½ hour leisurely journey (inter-city train takes 2 hrs), thereby the train invariably provides vistas of the countryside away from the main-line.
This luxurious yet intimate train has seven beautifully detailed carriages, each bearing the name of a great British castle or stately home. The individually designed carriages have been lovingly restored.
There are private tables for 2 or 4 guests in each carriage. Six of the carriages have a capacity of 42.
The majority of match seats included in the Northern Belle Package are situated in the West Lower Stand although some may be allocated in the East Lower Stand. The seats are provided in a block for your group and are located side-on to the action, towards the try line. Please note that the lower tier of the Principality Stadium is quite shallow and does not afford a lofty elevated view. When planning your walk to the stadium, time should be allowed for queues at the turnstiles.
The catering is always a splendid affair on-board. You will enjoy themed canapés on arrival followed by a 3-course luncheon on the outward journey. During the return journey, after the match, you will be served a 3-course dinner with coffee and Petit Fours.
A glass of Champagne will greet you as you board on the outward and return journeys. Also included is a half-bottle of wine per person during both meals. All other drinks are at an extra cost.
The service is always exceptional from highly trained uniformed waiters.
There are no rugby speakers or ambassadors included in this package.
There are no TV screens on board.
Match programmes are not included in this package.
Most hospitality options have no strict dress codes, however, smart casual is generally adopted (no trainers), it is advised to dress for the weather.
GPS users can get to Principality Stadium using the postcode CF10 1NS. There is little parking at the Stadium, however, there are several NCP car parks nearby, or guests are encouraged to use public transport. The closest train station is Cardiff Central, a short 5-minute walk to the Stadium.
