Formed in 1879 as a local boys’ church team, Fulham St. Andrews, Fulham Football Club is the oldest London based club to play in the Football League and has a long history with its fair share of ups and downs.
Fulham FC started playing at their current home ground, Craven Cottage, in 1896 and have largely stayed put except for vacating in 2002 due to the stadium requiring upgrades to its stands and facilities, ultimately returning in 2004.
Fulham gained professional status in 1898, the second club from London to do so following Arsenal, with the club joining the Football League soon after in 1907. Since then the club has played in both the Championship and Premier League with varying success.
Fans consider their main rivals to be Chelsea and it’s easy to see why, as Stamford Bridge is within Fulham itself. This fixture is rarely played but when it is, the two sides clash with tangible voracity.
